Vick’s Famous Hamburgers to open third branch in Corpus Christi
Vick’s Famous Hamburgers – a Westside staple known for its bespoke burgers – is opening a third location in Corpus Christi’s Southside.
Owner George Pollakis plans to open another burger restaurant at 6734 Saratoga Boulevard in the spring of 2022.
“The city is growing, and it is growing towards this part of the city (the Southside),” he said. “And, our clientele works in the Westside, but lives there.”
He has owned the business for 24 years. Vick’s was founded by Pollakis’ parents in 1976 as a stall in Port Avenue and Leopard Street.
“Owning this restaurant is part of my family’s American dream,” Pollakis told the Caller-Times in 2018. “I was 12 when my parents followed other family members from Athens, Greece to Corpus Christi. “
Most recently, in 2018, he constructed a 2,000 square foot building from scratch for his Westside location at 626 North Port Ave. In 2000, Pollakis opened a second location at 4989 Ayers St.
The new Southside Restaurant will have a similar building that is both modern and classic and will seat around 90 people.
“We love classic cars so you’re going to see a lot of classic cars on the wall,” he said. “Our motto is” Classic Burgers, Classic Cars “.
Vick’s Ultimate Burger is the most popular. Customer favorite includes sautéed mushrooms, tomatoes, jalapenos, onions, fried pickles, lettuce, bacon, mustard, mayonnaise, ketchup, two kinds of cheese and beef.
The restaurant serves more than burgers. It is also known for its Tex-Mex, fried chicken and seafood. All entrees are also homemade.
“I’ve always said that our menu, although it started out as a burger concept, was created by our customers,” Pollakis said. “And that’s the key to success: listening to what your customers love. “
